Chronicle: A Review

Ron Burgundy: (on the fight between local anchormen) Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast!
Champ Kind: It jumped up a notch.
Ron Burgundy: [surprised] It did, didn’t it?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.
Ron Burgundy: I saw that! Brick killed a guy! Did you throw a trident?
Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.

Holy shit what a good movie. The found footage idea was corny alot of the time, but it did seem pretty neat by the end. All 3 main actors were great and I can’t believe that the movie wasn’t cliche’d at all. Once again, it’s another reason why high schoolers should never be given super powers… they are way too moody.

SPOILER TALK ON THE NEXT PAGE BEWARE

Haha how spot on is that Anchorman sequence in describing how everything went down? That shit really did happen almost to a T (Spear instead of Trident). Just out of nowhere, the movie went from lighthearted and fun, to totally dark… darker than pretty much any other Superhero movie ever.

So did the commercial for the movie lie to us? Andrew never said that whole “I’m stronger than BOTH of you!” line because holy shit was I surprised when he killed off Steve in the middle of the movie (literally at the one hour mark). That really, really shocked me. I’m sure alot of you thought Andrew’s mom just died or something (or at least wanted to think that).

But ya, I can see (dumb) people complaining about how they didn’t like the movie because Andrew was too whiny and stuff, but I thought it was ballsy to have the protaganist turn into the ultimate antagonist by the end of the movie. Hubris really was his downfall.

And yes, I did like how Matt was all into philosophy (I’ve read that some critics thought that was too random), as it helped hint to how what they were doing would eventually escalate into a total moral crisis. Andrew went full Nietzche and that’s never a good thing.
