Blut Aus Nord - “Epitome VI” from 777- Sect(s)
I haven’t posted an epic, brutal metal song on here in a long time, so check out this crushing track from pretty much every metal magazine’s favorite project of the year. I say project instead of album because Vindsval (this French band is his solo project) is releasing an epic three-part trilogy called 777, of which two parts - Sect(s) and The Desanctification— were released this year, with the last part coming out early 2012. This is technically categorized as black metal— a genre that I get bored with pretty quickly since I’m not entirely on board with the whole hating on Jesus and having every song dominated with atmospherics of wintery despair schtick— but its got alot of post-rock, industrial and sludge elements as well, so if you like bands like Isis, Russian Circles, Ministry and Gojira, you’ll probably like this. And I don’t know what it is about the French, but I swear they’ve been making the best metal albums for the last 4 years now (the well of innovation has gone dry in America, Sweden and England apparently).
And yes this definitely makes for good Christmas music… at least if you appreciate the holiday for what it originally was: a pagan festival meant to celebrate the winter solstice *throws up horns*
