The Naked and Famous - “Young Blood” from Passive Me, Aggressive You
So Hipster me says you will love this band that I discovered in good ol’ FIFA 12, especially if you already like MGMT, Empire of the Sun, M83 and Passion Pit. That game’s soundtrack just keeps getting better and better every year, and The Naked and Famous’ featured song “Punching in a Dream” is giving my other favorite song from the game, the epic “Hold On” from The Chain Gang of 1974, a run for its money.
Anyway, I’m focusing on this track from the New Zealand quintet because its even better than the other one. Lead Singer Alisa Xayalith has some major pipes on her (and some major hotness to boot… I don’t normally dig Asian girls, but I guess there’s something different about her since she’s from Flight of the Conchords homeland) and I’ve always said that harpsichord makes any song better (see “Animal Arithmetic” by Jonsi for another example of this).
I’m digging this trend in 2011 that’s seeing a bunch of bands delivering soaring anthems filled with layers of electronic samples, pounding percussion and gang vocals. This group does it better than most folks, so I hope they have some staying power in the future.
